Step 1: Prepare your spray solutions Slip Solution - combine one-two drops of Johnson's Baby Shampoo with 16 oz of water in a clean spray bottle. This solution will allow you to position the film on the surface without having it stick until you're ready. Tacking Solution - combine 25% isopropyl alcohol and 75% water in your other spray bottle. This solution will be used when you are ready to tack down the film and squeegee out the moisture. TIP: If your spray bottles are identical it may help to mark or label one of them so you don't get them mixed up. I simply put some masking tape around my tacking solution bottle. If you do get them confused, just shake one of them, if it makes bubbles then it is the slip solution. |
Step 2: Work in a shaded area In a garage is best,
especially if it is windy out. If even the tiniest piece of dust or lint
gets under the film, it will be noticeable and difficult to remove without
having to replace the piece. |

Step 3: Clean the area thoroughly Some soap and water and a towel should do depending on how dirty the area is. I always use clay just to be sure that the surface is as clean as possible. Once clean, wipe dry and ensure there is no dust or lint on the paint. This is one reason I prefer using microfibers, but if you don't have any, a terry towel will do. Just be sure it doesn't leave any lint behind. |

Step 3: Measure and Cut Using a measuring tape, measure the length and width of the area you want to cover. Then use a pencil to mark the size you want on the film backing paper (the side that says "3M") and cut with scissors or Xacto knife. TIP: For a more professional appearance, use the scissors to cut rounded corners at the edges of the film. It will be much easier and safer to do it prior to installation as opposed to when it is applied on the car. |

Step 4: Wash your hands then Spray Slip Solution Wash your hands thoroughly, otherwise oils from your fingertips will transfer to the sticky side of the film. Soak down the application area with your slip solution and also spray some on your fingertips. |

Step 5: Peel away the backing Carefully peel away the backing paper. Try to touch it as little as possible and carry it by the corners.

Step 6: Immediately spray the sticky side with the slip solution to prevent the film from sticking to itself during handling. TIP: Having a second person spray the slip solution onto the back of the film while you peel away the backing would be easiest. |
