Engine should be warm, but not hot. Hot oil could cause severe burns. Allow cooling time if the car has been running for awhile.

Step 1:

Optional: Drive the car onto ramps. This is not necessary, but it will give you a little more room to work.

Turn the steering wheel all the way to your right. If attempting this on ramps, have a second person watch the tires to ensure they maintain adequate contact with the ramps. Engage emergency brake once positioned.

Step 2:

The filter is located behind the passenger side front tire. It is easier to reach it this way than from underneath.

Optional: Place newspaper under the work area to catch any drips. This will make cleanup much easier..

Step 3:

Locate the drain plug and position the drip pan underneath it, keeping in mind the oil will initially come out with some trajectory.

Step 4:

Unscrew the drain plug being careful not to let it drop into the pan.

Allow the oil to drip for at least 5 minutes before proceeding.

Step 5:

Wipe the drain plug clean and set it aside.

Step 6:

Remove the old crush washer from the drain plug and replace it with the new one.

If you get them mixed up, the old one probably has some circular grooves on one side.
